This Neck of the Woods - Dwelling for Intervals is an independent state,
a sculpture, a series of collaborations, an international artist residency,
a wilderness, a treehouse, a traveling circus, and a relative site/situation
for temporary doing or undoing.
This Neck of the Woods was a project located in a backyard in downtown Rotterdam, The Netherlands. In 2005 this land was staked and temporarily declared Canadian soil. On it a cabin was built to house guest residents. In 2007 the soil reverted to the Dutch government and This Neck of the Woods went on the road as the nomadic residency Knock on Woods. This Neck of the Woods and Knock on Woods have their roots in the forest residency A Week in the Woods (Montreal, Canada 2001-2003).
This Neck of the Woods, A Week in the Woods and Knock on Woods have involved the participation of many people and a bunch of young trees. The events and exchanges that occured were only possible due to the serious handshakes and dedicated play of all those who participated. Concept, design and technical support for these projects by Yvette Poorter.
