As people started to schedule residencies, I realized I had to do one myself to figure out just how weird it is to sit in a small, square, barren room with thirty-odd seedlings and actually take on the time. After my first day of four hours I felt rejuvenated when I came out (into my own apartment of stuff!) - I felt encouraged by this. Luckily, as one after another resident came, and word-of-mouth got around, the project built its own momentum and I relaxed into my position as resident technician. I would water the trees, clean the sheets, sweep the floor, offer technical assistance and extra equipment, as need be.
