JOANNE BALCAEN

“Looked through the shoebox. Sang some love songs to the trees. Wiped the dust off the grapefruit tree leaves. Listened to tapes and CD in box. Wished I could understand German. Admired bad patching job on the wall of the room. Made a couple tapings of me singing a Patsy Cline song, saving the least awful one (yikes) for the box. Watched the hole in the left corner of the room where the floor dips, waiting for a rock n’ roll bar mouse to poke its nose through. Froze all my extremities, but hands and nose warmed up after the singing. Wrote down the names of everyone I could think of until I felt too sleepy to continue and was asleep. Took photographs of mouse hole.”
