Lil' Babylon proposal by Knowles Eddy Knowles
kekinteriors

"Recently Knowles Eddy Knowles became aware of ... This Neck of the Woods. We were very interested in becoming part of it because of the informal and playful approach to the idea of an artist residency; because it claims itself as 'Canadian' territory (to where KEK traces our foundation); and because as a collective group of three, the available space [in TNOTW] could not accommodate us.

Our ineligibility inspired another idea - to be 'in residence' in Rotterdam without really residing in any of the art spaces in any official sense. We would expand outward, residing in dwellings we could construct with found materials in public spaces and recording the process on film.

The veritable arist residencies would in turn become stage sets, where we would temporarily borrow space during the day for dramatic sequences. The sides of the membrane that moderates private and public spaces would serve as spaces of plotline narration, reflection, segway, artifice, and distance from the 'production' mode, the street, where KEK will in fact be residing.
We would like to develop a pace that alternates between documentary and theatre, external and internal, and official and unofficial. The narrative force that will bind together the differing modes will be that of the genre 'buddy film', to dynamize or even fictionalize the importance of our personal relationships to the collaborative process.

In terms of our own practice, the negotiation and dialogues betwen us are constituted as mediums; if our mutual dependency is coupled with the element of adventure in outdoor living, the contours of the 'buddy genre' are clearly visible."

Knowles Eddy Knowles are: Jonathan Knowles (Canada), Michael Eddy (Germany), Robert Knowles (England).

In fact they haven't yet visited This Neck of the Woods but their proposal has been on display at TNOTW exhibition at ramfoundation and in the crate under the bed in the technician's box. At these sites, the public, official residents, and guests could imagine KEK's project actually being realized. This Neck of the Woods still hopefully awaits their arrival.
