At the end of 2006, the Rotterdam site of This Neck of the Woods reverted to the jurisdiction of her Royal Highness Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. In 2007 and 2008, the resident technician is taking the forest residency and archives on the road as Knock on Woods.
Knock on Woods is a para-site residency hosted by ex-residents around the world. The project establishes autonomous territories along the way by temporarily staking claim to land with the use of tree-flags.
During each in-situ-ation, the resident technician erects the KOW cabin inside the flag forest and presents projects from A Week in the Woods and This Neck of the Woods. The technician will also present an Official TNOTW Commemorative Award to an ex-resident, and locals are invited to do residencies. After a week or so at each site Knock on Woods departs to establish itself elsewhere. For details about the residencies, tree-flags and awards, find the links below.
Knock on Woods was made possible with the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts (InterArts) and the collaboration of the host sites and residents.
